Italia 2012 Field School
The ItaliaDesign field school is an immersive and intensive project where a group of selected students get the opportunity to travel across Italy conducting ethnographic research, eating delicious food and documenting the countries rich history, art and architecture. Throughout Italy, we conducted a series of interviews with master designers and architects to create a short documentary, called Progetto.

Progetto: The Documentary
After two months in Italy, Ben Johnson, Kurtis So, and myself embarked on the journey of compiling all of the interview and cultural footage into a documentary. We wrote all of subjects that was being communicated and put it up to get better grasp of it's totality and how to conjure a narrative from it.

Title Sequence
While creating the title sequence for the film, I wanted to embody the main concepts of Italian design we had distilled from the interviews. The duality of historical circumstance and modern interaction design was the thesis of our documentary.

Interviews
Our team interviewed 18 of Italy's leading architects and designers. My main role was medium-cam operator, where I held the camera as still as humanly possible to keep a perfect frame and composition. The entire experience was so rewarding, from the intensity of the trip's itinerary to trying to capture everything at once.
While in Milan, I took a break from the camera and got to interview one of my design idols, Matteo Thun. It was exhilarating to talk with Thun about how he created the infamous Illy espresso cup, his work with the Memphis Group and the future of technology.
